Celebrating vibrant faith & gracious hospitality

Prayer is a way for Christians to be with God, converse with God, understand and enter into a relationship with God.

Prayer is undertaken in many different ways. Some people pray aloud, some pray silently. Some pray alone, and many enjoy praying together in groups. Some people also use forms of Christian meditation.

Some people find it helpful to read passages of the bible, especially the Psalms as part of our time spent intentionally with God.

Many Christians find the need to take time out of the routines of work to be still before God before the day begins and often at the end of the day.

Many Christians use a form of prayer to guide their relationship with God, or they will seek out a Spiritual director and make time to go away for a few days on retreat.

The Lord's Prayer

If you have not prayed much before, a good place to start is to learn The Lord's Prayer, the prayer which Jesus taught his own disciples. The Lord's Prayer, below, is a prayer common to most Christian groups.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.
